THE LNP plans to invest $10 million to help deliver jobs and economic development on Stradbroke Island after Labor’s decision to shut down sand mining.
LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said the decision to shut down mining was taken to appease inner-city Green voters without any regard for locals’ livelihoods.
“Let’s be honest, Annastacia Palaszczuk’s decision to shut down sand mining on the island was politically- inspired and designed to secure inner-city votes,” Mr Nicholls said.
“She single-handedly nearly destroyed a rich and vibrant community because of her own self-interest and
that of the Green activists who moonlight as cabinet ministers.
“However, Straddie locals are a resilient bunch and this announcement is about giving them a hand up, not
a hand out.”
Oodgeroo candidate Mark Robinson said the LNP would always have the backs of Straddie locals.
“We need to start planning now to help the Straddie community in the future after the carpet was ripped out from underneath it by Labor,” Mr Robinson said.
“LNP Leader Tim Nicholls has travelled to Straddie twice in the past six months and has heard first-hand the devastating impacts of Labor’s decision for locals and business owners.
“The LNP’s plan will support new jobs on our island and support local businesses.
“We need positive policies like the one the LNP has outlined today – to boost confidence, make it easier to do business and create local jobs.
“This funding announcement will go a long way to providing real outcomes for locals, rather than un-achievable thought bubbles concocted by bureaucrats in Brisbane.”
