Bay Island residents will no be able to memorialise their loved ones ashes without having to travel to the mainland with a memorial garden on Russell Island officially opened on November 16.
The four-hectare gardens in the High Street Nature Belt Park were blessed by Father Daniel Hobbs in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd.
The gardens do not include a cemetery or crematorium and funerals also can not be held on the grounds, but the gardens do offer internment spaces for ashes as well as benches and tables for residents to rest and remember their loved ones.
Redland City Council has already received a number of bookings for internment spaces in the garden.
For more information on bookings contact council’s cemetery and interment services team on 3829 8999 or email rcc@redland.qld.gov.au.
