England have exacted revenge on Cameron Bancroft, turning the lights out on the man who played a key role in the imposition of their curfew.
At his last public appearance, Bancroft had many, including his captain, in stitches but this time it was only a laughing matter if your allegiances lie with the Three Lions.
England have been smarting all week since Jonny Bairstow's headbutt came to light but Bancroft's dismissal should give them something to joke about over a drink - before midnight of course.
The visitors did not wait long to start the mocking, with Stuart Broad pointing his fingers to his ears towards David Warner, who had been at fault in the mix up, moments later.
Broad's gesture is unlikely to be well received in the Australian dressing room, coming after England captain Joe Root publicly questioned the motives behind Steve Smith's laughter at his press conference in Brisbane.
Former great Shane Warne, however, said he had no problems with Broad's actions.
"I don't mind that, he didn't say anything at all, just showing his excitement, just letting David Warner know by his body language," Warne said on Channel Nine's broadcast.
"Whenever we played when someone ran someone out, didn't you love letting them know?
"He knows he was at fault there, so does David Warner. That calling was certainly the undoing of his partner."
Warner appeared shaken by the run out, which gave England a much needed boost in morale after going almost 65 overs over two Tests without a wicket.
If not for Bancroft, the England squad would still have the freedom to let their hair down after hours on what could prove to be a torturous tour. Perhaps they could even be one up given Bancroft's impressive performance in Australia's successful run chase.
Run outs never make for good viewing if you're on the batting team but this one was particularly cringeworthy.
It may not have been as bizarre as Shane Watson's photo finish run out at the MCG in 2009 but still a shemozzle.
This one, the first bump on the road for Australia's new opening partnership, could be put under the category of "yes, no, sorry" with Bancroft the innocent victim after being sold up the creek by Warner.
It proved right the adage of never running on a misfield. The vice-captain's confusion was caused by a fumble by Moeen Ali at short cover, which fooled Warner into thinking a run was there only for him to change his mind after seeing Chris Woakes pounce on the loose ball.
The shout of no, however, came too late for Bancroft, who had honoured his partner's call only to be forced into an abrupt u-turn and desperate dive for the crease.
If Bancroft was to be applauded for his dry delivery at the post-match press conference in Brisbane, he deserved recognition here for his restraint, leaving the arena without even a look up the other end.
The run out came as a shock given the pair had appeared to develop a healthy rapport in their only match together.
Former Test spinner Kerry O'Keeffe, commentating on Triple M, had observed how the pair, who opened the scoring with a quick single, were in symbiosis.
It's too early to see this as the end of the honeymoon period for Australia's latest opening combination.
Their performance up to this point had been sound. Sent in by Root under overcast skies, Warner and Bancroft were untroubled by England's new ball combination.
They kept the scoreboard ticking by rotating the strike and putting away the bad ball. But one failure of communication let them down.
