THIEVES are pocketing thousands of dollars by re-selling tools stolen from across south-east Queensland, with bayside tradies hard hit.
Redland Bay has been listed as one of six suburbs targeted in the past two months, prompting warnings for tradies to lock-up valuable tools.
East crime group Detective Inspector Owen Elloy said tradies’ vans and utes were irresistible for criminals wanting to make a quick buck.
“Unfortunately, tools are easily re-sold and have a good re-sale value, making them valuable items for thieves,” he said.
Police said four vehicles at Redland Bay were robbed early Tuesday, December 5. A tiler’s trailer (pictured) was also taken.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the black trailer was stolen from an Aquila Street address about the same time two nearby cars and two other vehicles at Hayman Road and Melrose Court were targeted.
The equipment stolen included a compressor, jackhammers, drills and various other tools.
The Redland Bay spate came after the theft of a number plate set and tools from six vehicles at Jimboomba’s Flagstone Estate on November 26.
Previous to this, four vehicles at Bahrs Scrub, Springwood and Mount Warren Park were robbed sometime throughout October 29 and the next day.
The spokesperson said police believed a Hyundai sedan, stolen from Shailer Park and since recovered, had been involved in the late October spate.
Property was also stolen from construction sites at Springwood and Beenleigh between October 27 and October 29.
