A MOUNT Cotton couple were left to untie themselves from electrical cords after three men brandishing weapons invaded and pillaged their home early this morning.
Sue Spierenburg, 67, said she was relieved she and her husband Henry survived the ordeal.
She said three men, wearing balaclavas, smashed their way through the home’s front door about 4am before running upstairs and threatening her husband with a hunting knife.
The two were then taken hostage for 20 minutes as their home was looted.
Mrs Spierenburg said the pair were brought downstairs and separated as her husband was made to open a safe kept inside a locked cupboard.
She said one of the men, armed with a baseball bat and making throat slashing gestures, kept watch of her in the living room as their valuables were stolen.
Wads of cash and jewellery were taken before two kitchen drawers containing medicine were dumped into a duffle bag.
“They knew exactly what they were doing,” she said.
The men then demanded her husband take them to a gun safe but later returned empty handed.
The gun safe had nothing in it and the two were tied up back-to-back with electrical cord as the men made their escape.
Mrs Spierenburg said she believed the men may have been known to her and her husband or to someone they knew.
A Queensland Police Media spokesperson said police were investigating the matter with no charges yet made.
The Mount Cotton home invasion has come after a similar style attack at a Victoria Point home in September.
As reported by the Redland City Bulletin, five men smashed their way into a Crestlea Street home before assaulting a male occupant and stealing a car, cash and other property.
The police spokesperson confirmed no charges had yet been laid in relation to the Victoria Point home invasion.
