Gai Waterhouse has been back to her best in the past couple of months and that trend looks set to continue at Randwick's traditional festive season meeting on Saturday.
Tulloch Lodge had a winner on every major day of the Melbourne Cup carnival and has racked up a good series of winners in Sydney since.
From Broadside in the Christmas Cup, through in-form mare Sedanzer to Cabeza De Vaca and Dark Eyes in the Villiers Stakes, it looks another good afternoon for Tulloch Lodge as Waterhouse's co-trainer Adrian Bott returns from his holiday.
"Adrian will be back and straight back into it and hopefully picking up some trophies," Waterhouse said.
"You look at the meeting and we have very good chances.
"Broadside is a horse that has just matured into a very good stayer and his win the other day would suggest he will love the 2400 metres at Randwick."
Broadside stepped out off a seven-week break to take the ATC Cup a couple of weeks ago and brings good form around the 2400m from his spring preparation. He won the Newcastle Cup before being photo-finished into third in the Colin Stephen Quality and running a game fifth in The Metropolitan.
"He is one of those horses that now we have worked him out he is going to be very effective around this staying trip and I think 2400m will be his best trip," Waterhouse added.
She decided on a jockey change for Cabeza De Vaca in the Villiers Stakes, putting Josh Parr on instead of apprentice Rachel King following his defeat in the Festival Stakes as favourite.
"Just forget that run," Waterhouse said. "He has been aimed at this race and can turn it around.
"Dark Eyes won the Goulburn Cup and he is up to the Villiers as well."
Sedanzer is getting up in the weights and distance as she goes to the mile after beginning this preparation with a couple of wins. Waterhouse is expecting another win as she will continue her preparation for the Magic Millions meeting next month.
"She is getting up to a trip where she will be at her best and although she has got her share of weight, Rachel rides her well and her claim helps," Waterhouse said. "I just think she is a winner which will keep winning."
Waterhouse also has two runners in the Inglis Nursery, a race she hasn't won. "Wimlah has trialled very well and is ready to debut but I like the other one [Let Me Sleep On It]. She has had the race experience [a second at Gosford) and has really impressed since that run with the way she has improved," Waterhouse said.
