The Interdominion will retain its traditional format of three nights of heats and a final as it rotates between Melbourne, New Zealand and Sydney during the next nine years.
The drama and unique test of the standard-bred series gave the encouragement for the decision.
"The Interdominion is the premier race in Australia and New Zealand, and it is a place where the sport has an unique chance to promote itself," Harness Racing NSW chief executive John Dumesny said.
"The traditional format gives a test that no race has."
The Interdominion will be held in Melbourne in December next year before it moves to New Zealand and then on to Menangle in 2020.
The Melbourne series will centre around Melton, but Harness Racing Victoria has put the middle set of heats out to tender to its country clubs.
Meanwhile, Browns Creek dairy farmer Jake Davis is continuing a family tradition in harness racing. The third-generation driver runs 1000 head of cattle, but getting to the races is a passion.
"I like the dairy farm, but it's nice to have the horses," he said.
"My pop started with horses when he was 21 and he's 76. Dad's done it his whole life and I started out really young, too, and it's something I want to continue to do.
"I work on the dairy farm full-time, but when we have a break during the day I will help Dad with the horses and we've had up to 16 horses in work recently, so we are getting much busier with the horses.
"We have 3500 acres and more than 1000 head of cattle on the farm, too."
Davis had his biggest win in the Soldiers Saddle Final at Bathurst this month and has three drives at Parkes on Sunday, the best of which is Studleigh stride.
