A THORNLANDS woman who was chased by a bakery store owner after she allegedly stole a charity collection box will face Cleveland Magistrates Court next month.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said it would be alleged the woman pinched the duck-shaped box from the shop’s counter about 6.15pm on Thursday, December 21, as staff worked in another area.
“The woman ripped the duck, whose funds were intended for the Princess Alexandra Hospital, from the counter taking it along with an undisclosed amount of money,” the spokesperson said.
The woman returned about an hour later but was recognised by the bakery’s owner who had reviewed CCTV footage.
The spokesperson said the owner demanded the woman return the duck, rushing off after her as she fled.
“Other witnesses took chase themselves successfully detaining the woman by corralling her until police arrived,” the spokesperson said.
The woman was charged by police with two counts of stealing and for offences related to entering a premises with intent and resisting arrest.
She will appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on Thursday, January 18.
