SUPERCROSS rookie Nathan Crawford, of Mount Cotton, has been restored as winner of the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship SX1 Class held at Jimboomba last month.
Crawford successfully appealed a decision that had relegated him from first to third position at the event on November 18.
A spokesperson for Motorcycling Australia said Crawford was penalised at the event following an incident where he left the track and rejoined the race.
“As a result of the successful appeal, Crawford has been restored the Round 6 Jimboomba SX1 win,” the spokesperson said.
The decision at the event had handed the win to American Nick Schmidt, with Kade Mosig second and Dan Reardon, of Mount Nathan, fourth.

The spokesperson said the decision was based on a rule that provided for penalties where a rider’s machine left the track and thereby an advantage was gained.
“Evidence shows Mr Crawford, when leading towards the end of the race, left the track inadvertently for a few seconds,” the spokesperson said.
“He slowed up with his hand in acknowledgement of what had happened. He then rejoined the race and eventually crossed the finish line in first position.”
The spokesperson said the committed disagreed with the basis of the decision to penalise Crawford.
“There is sufficient evidence to say that Mr Crawford did not ‘gain an advantage’...This alone is enough to reinstate the competitor’s first place position and points.”
The updated SX1 Championship standings see Nathan Crawford in fourth place with 99 points, behind Dean Ferris in third, Daniel Reardon second and Justin Brayton first with 124 points.
