REDLANDS Tigers have begun strongly across the grades in the latest round of two-day fixtures, as the race for finals spots heats up.
First grade made Toombul toil with ball in hand away from home, piling on 269 runs in 90 overs to set up an intriguing second day’s play next Saturday. Skipper Steven Moss played a vital hand of 47 at the top of the order to help set the platform for Sam Howse (84) and Bailey Stewart (63), to take full toll of Toombul’s tiring attack late in the day.
Second grade set up the opportunity to take outright points next Saturday against Toombul after the hosts dismissed the opposition for just 142 on the opening morning. Jamie Ryan claimed impressive figures of 6/31 from 17 overs. Leonard Watt proved the perfect foil for Ryan with four himself. Redlands batsmen, Bailey Lavender (68), Sam Ward (52), Josh Guy (46), and Marty Miers (43), posted a 122 run lead inside 45 overs to end the day with the upper hand.
Third grade fought back from early trouble to post 124 against Toombul away from home. Jacob Apted top scored with 38, while Pearce Anderson (31) and Josh Thompson (28) made contributions.
Fourth grade continued Redlands’ fine start to the post-Christmas season with a run-scoring feast on Fred Kratzmann Oval.
The Tigers batsman finish the day six down for 303. Scott McAuliffe starred with 95 on his return, while David Brook fell short of a century with 92.
Fifth grade one need to chase down 250 next Saturday to claim first innings points against South Brisbane. Tigers bowlers started well, at 5/82. Fraser Haynes, Mitch Jensen, Jordan Crick and Ben Lockwood led the way with two wickets each.
Fifth grade two will need to bat well next weekend to chase down Sandgate-Redcliffe’s first-innings total of 226. A strong start from the opposition saw the team through to a total of 3/121, but the Tigers bowlers, through Zac Maguire (2/24) and Tom Knight (3/59), clawed back to take the remaining seven wickets for just over 100.
Sixth grade one claimed first innings points in a clash with Northern Suburbs.
Tigers dismissed the opposition for 140.
Tom Gray and Trent Conwell took two wickets apiece. Redlands amassed 180 runs in the final session after Chris O’Shea tore apart the Northern Suburbs attack with a 23-ball 58.
Oppressive heat and difficult conditions greeted the travelling sixth grade two side.
Tigers toiled hard on a flat wicket, but couldn’t produce the wickets required to dismiss Valley two, who declared six down for 242. Spin twins Jake Davies (2/49) and Jordan Telford (3/69) led the way.
