A slew of events has been organised for Ormiston House making it a cultural and historic Redland destination in 2018.
The house will reopen from noon to 4pm on Sunday, January 28 with entry at $7 adults, $5 concession and $2 for under 12 years. It will remain open every week until December 9 and offer its usual devonshire teas as well as sandwiches, cold drinks and local boutique coffee.
The first event this year is a craft expo which has moved from its Cleveland site to the house and will be staged from noon to 4pm on March 11. About 50 exhibitors are expected. Entry is the standard entry price and the show supports the Rural Fire Service and Wesley Hospital Breast Cancer clinic.
There will be a Christmas in July from noon to 3pm on July 8 at a cost of $60. A choral showcase will feature the winners of the 2018 eisteddfod from 12.30pm on August 26 then Disney comes to Ormiston with a song and dance show for children on October 28. This will feature performers from the Queensland Conservatorium and Queensland ballet with prizes for best character costumes. Entry is $15/$10.
The house has long been associated with various concours and these will be held from 10.30am to 4.30pm on June 24 (vintage), July 22 (Rolls Royce), August 12 (Mercedes) and September 9 (Ferrari).
A high tea will be staged for Mothers’ Day at 11am on May 13 and again for spring at 10.30am on October 21. The cost is $35.
ABC celebrity gardener Jerry Coleby-Williams will a devonshire tea and garden tour at 10.30am on Sunday, September 16 for $25 and there will be a historical talk and tea with Jess Stroja at 10.30am on April 22 for $15.
House administrator and Redland eisteddfod president Duchesne Barry said she was pleased to see the house at the centre of so many cultural events this year.
“She said it was also available for small events such as high teas and baby showers on the veranda and was a wonderful backdrop for formal and wedding photographs. The house is also open during the week for group tea and tour bookings ($12/$10) and school educational tours.
This year, the house will also host a Christmas carol by candle light event and Ms Barry said she hoped to attract high calibre singers.
“I am thrilled to be the administrator of the house. I have loved this house forever and its history needs to be preserved and promoted. I am also constantly amazed and delighted at the dedication and attitude of the volunteers,” she said.
