The rapid rise of Mackenzie Harvey has reached another milestone with the 17-year-old batsman signed by the Melbourne Renegades as a replacement player for Aaron Finch.
Harvey, the nephew of former Australian one-day all-rounder Ian Harvey, is viewed as an emerging star of Australian cricket and could become the Big Bash League's youngest ever player.
The teenager made 59 from 48 balls against England in a tour match last week, and recently bashed 136 from 130 balls playing for Australia's under-19 side against Pakistan's under 19s.
Harvey replaces Renegades captain Finch, who has joined Australia's one-day squad. Under league rules, Harvey must be named in the Renegades' 12 for their next match against the Adelaide Strikers at Etihad Stadium on Monday night.
"I'm really stoked and to play in a Big Bash game would be absolutely amazing," Harvey said.
"After my last few games I've felt pretty confident so it should be good fun.
"I'm a Renegades fan so to hopefully pull the guernsey on for them will be a big honour."
The Renegades are 4-3 and face a fight to return to the finals for the first time in five years following back-to-back losses.
