There's a new country-style bakery-cafe in Cleveland, and it has only been open for a couple of weeks.
“We do things a little bit different” says Leezett White. “A lot of people say it’s like a country bakery when they’ve been in so far”, which means that some of you have already noticed.
Leezett and Jonathan White, along with their teenage daughters Annabel and Sophie, moved up from Junee, NSW, three years ago.
Being a sporty family Leezett said the lifestyle, weather and opportunities that Queensland had to offer suited their family.
They found a school for the girls that they all love, and now that the new shop is open in Queen Street the family’s move to Queensland is complete.
This advertising feature is sponsored by the following business:
Jonathon has been a baker for 30 years, and he “used to fly back and forth to our bakery (in Junee) until we sold it” Leezett divulged.
They didn’t come alone either. They brought with them their baker Brendan who has moved up with his family as well, so there’s quite a lot of the country in The Flour Mill Bakery.
You can grab a pie, a great coffee or enjoy a slice. "We pride ourselves on three things to run a successful business - customer service, freshness, and having a good product."
One major point of difference that Leezett has noticed which makes their way of doing things really stand out is that “everything is made on premises, so freshness can be assured.”
Leezett also says “if a customer comes in and wants something, we can give them that. For instance, you can have a sandwich exactly the way you like it from freshly poached chicken, corned beef silverside or sliced ham with salad toppings.”
They can also have a very fast turn-around for catering. “Within an hour, we could have catering ready for someone.”
Also, “Coffee is a big thing for us, we love drinking it so we wanted to find the best available" states Leezett.
They were associated with the Amanti coffee company for over six years in Junee “and there were only praises for it.” Now in Cleveland, “Amanti coffee has definitely been a hit up here.”
As for the cakes, they are all country as well. "People get excited when they see the traditional vanilla slice, custard tart and fresh cream cakes." The Flour Mill Bakery also have a great range of low-gluten options.
They bake their own bread from scratch, and their pies with pastry from a recipe that Jonathon has been perfecting over the last 30 years.
"Jonathon likes developing unique flavours as well as traditional favourites. He's most adventurous would be our spaghetti pie, however beef stroganoff and chunky pepper have so far been the most popular. We also have a gluten-free pie option."
All the salads and meat for the pies comes regularly from local suppliers. In fact, you’ll find they really do prepare all the food on site.
The Flour Mill Bakery can be found at 10/111 Queen Street, Cleveland with parking at the rear and on site seating available.
You can also call them on (07) 3821 5075.
Go on, give their country-style of doing things a try.
