A dishwasher that only washes dishes seems so 2017 compared to a new "smart" model.
The "Tetra" counter-top dishwasher - a collaboration from water heater company Heatworks and industrial engineering company Frog Design - doesn't need to be plumbed through the walls, making it ideal for smaller and rental kitchens.
Instead users plug it into a wall-socket, pour in the desired amount of water and control the dishwasher via an app that starts the appliance remotely and adjusts water pressure and cycles.
The designers claim you can also wash your clothes, sanitise baby products and cook vacuum-sealed seafood inside the appliance.
Conventional dishwashers are often too large for households with few people, are expensive to both run and install and waste water.
That's the logic behind the Tetra, which was designed to be more compact and cheaper to run.
It uses roughly only two litres of water per cycle and each cycle only takes 10 minutes.
The dishwasher's stainless steel base is divided into three compartments; the first filled by hand with tap water and dishwashing detergent, another housing the sprayer and heating components and the third for holding the used water.
Heatworks' tankless technology works by deploying graphite electrodes that selectively heat minerals that exist in water, allowing more even, effective temperature control according to the company.
The product prototype was unveiled last week at CES 2018, the annual global consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.
If you have several children or a partner who decides to use every single utensil every time they cook, it won't be as practical, but is ideal if you struggle to fill a normal dishwasher.
The dishwasher will be on the market later in the year for $US300 ($377), The Verge reports.
