More than four hours after a truck burst into flames on the Mount Lindesay Highway, traffic is crawling on southside motorways as authorities try to clear the remains of the semi-trailer.
Southbound lanes of the Mount Lindesay highway remained closed at 5.30pm, with more than seven kilometres of delays stretching back to Acacia Ridge.
Westbound motorists were greeted by more than six kilometres of congestion on the Logan Motorway and almost eight kilometres of delays remained on the Gateway Motorway.
It comes after a truck crashed and caught fire, closing the Mount Lindesay Highway in Brisbane's south, with reports of explosions as the cargo of plastic trays burnt.
Emergency services were called to the Drewvale stretch of highway just before 1pm, with three fire crews finding the truck "well involved" upon arrival.
Police said the driver lost control before the semi-trailer crashed and caught fire.
The male driver managed to get out of the vehicle in time and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a stable condition.
A fire service spokesman said the fire was under control by 2.15pm, with crews dampening down hotspots.
A police spokeswoman said officers closed the entire highway as fire crews extinguished the blaze, with northbound traffic being diverted along Johnson Road and southbound drivers along the Logan Motorway.
Police urged drivers and nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke billowed from the vehicle.
Australian Traffic Network reporter Olympia Kwitowski said there were reports the truck was "exploding" as it burnt.
She said southbound delays stretched back about three kilometres along Beaudesert Road to Calamvale almost an hour after the fire broke out. Northbound delays were also about three kilometres long from Hillcrest.
Northbound lanes reopened about 2.15pm and traffic quickly cleared.
However, southbound congestion remained at 4pm, with almost six kilometres of delays stretching along Beaudesert Road back to Sunnybank Hills.
A fire service spokesman said crews were looking to dismantle the truck at 3.45pm, in order to clear it from the highway.
