Evelyn Derbyshire celebrated her 100th birthday on January 17 with a morning tea with family and friends at the Nandeebie Centre of Care.
Son John Derbyshire said Evelyn was born at Croydon in far North Queensland and lived there until she took up a nursing career.
She was a nursing sister in Brisbane and at Atherton during WWII after which she married her husband Rich who worked in the Forestry Department.
“They had four children under the age of four, including twins,” Mr Derbyshire said.
“The family lived in Millaa Millaa, Ingham and Townsville.
“She cared for her husband for seven years during his long illness until he died in 1985.
“She continued to live in her own home until she was 97.”
Mr Derbyshire said his mother celebrated her birthday at a lunch with her four children, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
