Driver-trainer Steve Maguire has bragging rights over his good mate Dave Hargrave after Major Roll made a one-act affair of the Breeders Plate Final at Leeton on Friday.
Hargrave bred the unbeaten two-year-old and was ready to sell him before he had had a start.
"I told him he would be mad to sell this fella, he would be better off giving me half," Maguire said.
"Lucky he listened to me and gave me half.
"I have to say he is a bit smarter than me because I had his mother [Courlivia???] for him. She never got to the races and I wouldn't have bred from her.
"But he has shown us ability from the start and I don't go to the race unless I think I can win it."
Major Roll went a 1.58.3 mile rate without being pressured, taking the final out after leading from gate three. His main danger, Petes Big Jim, broke on the first turn.
"He did that all himself and there was plenty up my sleeve," Maguire said.
After taking out the Riverina's biggest race, Maguire faces a tough decision with Major Roll, which is eligible for the Bathurst Gold Crown. There is also the rich Sapling Stakes at Menangle on February 24 and Breeders Challenge and Breeders Blue series that the Roll With Joe two-year-old could contest.
"I don't know if I will go to Bathurst," Maguire said. "You can't go everywhere and the Breeders Blue keeps him away from the Victorians and the Purdon horses and it has a big final.
"I have to see how he is in the next couple of days and might go to the Sapling Stakes and then look to the Breeders Challenge.
"We have a good horse and want to have him for a couple of years."
