Whoever replaces Hugh Bowman in the saddle of Winx for the Apollo Stakes on February 17 will be in an unenviable position.
The expectation around Winx's every move and winning record creates its own pressure.
The Apollo isn't a group 1, there isn't really a big purse, but the jockey will be under more implied pressure than riding a Golden Slipper or Melbourne Cup favourite.
"Who would want the job," one jockey manager said. "There is going to a lot of stress that comes with it because if you get beaten, it will be your fault not Winx's.
"If you win it is exactly would was meant to happen."
Bowman took a deep breath after returning a winner when Winx blew the start in the Warwick Stakes in the spring and a deeper one when she only just ran down Red Excitement in the final few strides of the Chelmsford Stakes at her second run back.
It was show of the pressure of riding the great mare.
Both wins were on hard tracks, not the mare's favourite surface and at trips where rivals can use their speed to test her early in a preparation.
It is the same scenario that she will be faced with in the Apollo Stakes. She will be vulnerable.
However it would be a good addition to have on any rider's resume a win on Winx. So would anyone turn it down?
Rosehill farewells track manager
Rosehill track manager Chris Toogood called it a day after 37 years preparing Sydney racetracks on Saturday.
Toogood has been in charge of Rosehill for the past 13 years and the quality of the job he has done is shown by the lack of criticism of the track.
"I had good staff to work with and a great track," 60-year-old Toogood said. "I'm going to miss it but it is the right time to finish up and start enjoying my life."
Shaun Patterson will step up from being Toogood's assistant for the past four years to become Rosehill track manager. He has climbed up the ranks since starting at Rosehill as an apprentice groundsman in 2007.
Godolphin's new leader
Vin Cox walks in for his first day as the general manager at Godolphin on Monday and will be faced with low staff morale and having to fix the rift between trainer James Cummings and Darren Beadman.
Godolphin needs leadership and Cox has shown that in his time at Magic Millions, where grew the Gold Coast-based horse sales business to challenge traditional power Inglis.
The lack of direction since Henry Plumptre's departure become evident in the past couple of months as has an underlying unrest among staff, with a number of departures and a general lack of direction around the stables.
It would appear that Beadman could be the next to leave with Cummings wanting to leave his stamp on the business.
Lloyd's son takes the reins
Champion jockey Jeff Lloyd has decided to send 16-year-old son Jaden to the South African Jockeys Academy in Durban to follow in his footsteps.
Jaden started his five-year-old apprenticeship in South Africa earlier in the month, where his father began his riding journey 44 years ago.
"I just feel the system gives a jockey a good grounding and discipline," Lloyd told Fairfax Media. "Discipline is very important if you are going to be a successful jockey.
"It is not that the Australian system is not good but I think if you really want to be jockey, the academy over there gives you the great opportunity to learn to ride and toughens you up.
"It is going to be hard for him being away from home but he will get the chance to ride every day."
