THE Tigers will need to come out all guns blazing next weekend to secure important victories in the lead-up to finals.
First grade will be chasing a big score for victory next weekend after South Brisbane posted 6/356 at stumps on day one. Charles Mailli was the pick of the Redlands bowlers once again, claiming four wickets in a terrific 34 over spell. James Bazley and Bailey Stewart also picked up a wicket each.
Second grade were defeated on first innings against South Brisbane away from home after being dismissed for 131, but will take heart from their bowling display which yielded nine wickets for 204 runs.
Cameron French led the run-scorers column with 60 in the first innings, while Sam Ward chipped in with a valuable 23. With the ball it was Lenny Watt that did the damage with four wickets.
Third grade piled on the runs against South Brisbane thanks to a spellbinding century from Jack Fraser, who remains 128 not out overnight. Michael McEwan (71) and Jesse Burns (51) helped get the Tigers through to a remarkable total of 3/308 declared at the close.
Fourth grade dismissed South Brisbane for just 167 away from home thanks to a fine display of bowling from Mitch Davis and Wayne Todman, who took four wickets apiece. The Tigers sit a 2/20 in reply, requiring a further 148 runs for first innings points.
Fifth grade one had a field day against University of Queensland on Peter Burge Oval, racking up a big first innings score of 255 for the loss of seven wickets.
Greg Morton top scored once again for the Tigers with 87, while Jordan Crick remains 72 not out at the close of play.
Fifth grade two are in a good position against rivals Wynnum-Manly at stumps and will be pushing hard for first-innings points next weekend.
The Tigers scored 248 batting first thanks to a fine innings of 93 from Nathan Brooker. Wes Aspeling also played a crucial hand of 30 to help Redlands post a competitive total.
Sixth grade one will also be chasing a big score for first-innings points next weekend after South Brisbane posted 9/303 at the close. Jay Kildey was the standout with the ball, claiming 4 wickets, and was ably supported by Dylan Kritzinger (2/36) and Tom Gray (2/45).
Sixth Grade two will be chasing 328 for victory next weekend against Valley one at home on Ron Field Oval.
The Tigers bowlers worked hard all day but were unable to make regular inroads against a strong Valley batting unit.
They will resume at 1/9 next weekend hoping to replicate their opponent’s efforts.
The Tigers women’s team posted an imposing 184 against the University of Queensland before taking eight opposition wickets for just 20 runs to earn a hard-fought away victory. Kate McDonald was the standout with the bat, scoring 44 off 30, and was well supported by Shaq Friske (21*).
