SATURDAY’s wet weather meant several Tigers sides drew their respective matches at the weekend, with only fifth grade one and the women’s Jodie Fields Shield side able to take the field.
Peter Burge Oval played host to fifth grade one’s clash with the University of Queensland on Sunday and saw the Tigers earn an important first innings victory that will likely see them regain top spot on the competition ladder. The Tigers declared at 9/292 early in the day’s play before stunning the visitors in a fine display of fast bowling that saw them collapse to 6/9 in the 11th over.
Young pace duo Matt Short and Fraser Haynes were the chief destroyers with the new ball and finished with figures of 3/1 and 3/8 respectively. Matt Dwyer ran through the middle order with four wickets to dismiss the opposition for 60. Redlands enforced the follow-on and picked up where they left off, taking two early scalps before a third-wicket partnership got UQ through to the close.
The Tigers women’s side recorded another resounding victory to continue their own march to the finals. Batting first in overcast conditions, the Tigers ladies posted a competitive total of 162 thanks to the heroics of Kate McDonald, who notched 56 from 91 deliveries. McDonald made sure her innings wouldn’t go to waste with ball in hand later in the day, claiming 3/2 from 2.2 overs to help dismiss Sunshine Coast for 92. Clodagh Ryall was also an influential figure with the ball and finished with tidy figures of 2/13 from 6.
