Harmony and heritage will be celebrated together with a Heritage and Harmony Fiesta being staged at the Redland Museum from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, March 18.
The free community event comprises the best of previous Harmony Days and the Heritage Festival run previously at the museum.
Event coordinator Tara Young said the idea sprang from a conversation with Bennie Williams of WeR1, a multi cultural group which meets at the museum at 10am each Friday.
“We wanted to combine a few key events and celebrate the rich and diverse history and multicultural communities,” Ms Young said.
The event will feature music, dance and foods from around the world as well as a costume display, story corner and craft.
Entertainers include Bay Samba, Dukes of Uke, Stradbroke Island Singers, a trio from Cleveland State high School, Russian and Polish dancing from Strictly Dance, Irish dancers from Lynagh Dance School, monsoon flutes with Francis Gilfedder and a welcome to country with Aunty Joan.
The Redland library will host a multicultural corner with stories from First Five Forever program and it is hoped there will also be a Quandamooka story teller.
Ms Young said a highlight would be a flag trail depicting the various cultures that have set up their homes in the Redlands and there will be a quiz about various artefacts in the museum.
Visitors are invited to enjoy tastes of various foods which will be for sale.
This fiesta is a free event made possible with a Redland City Council grant and support by WeR1 and RedArts.
