VIDEO surveillance is being installed at a Cleveland charity shop to deter vandalism, illegal dumping and theft.
Vinnies Queensland spokesman Kris Martin said anti-social behaviour cost the organisation thousands of dollars, with $80 an hour needed aloine to take dumped trash to the tip.
“(It) will help us cut down on theft, illegal dumping and vandalism, which we have to pay to remove or clean and that money we save from the reduction we can then put toward people in need in the community,” he said.

Mr Martin said CCTV had worked to stop crime at Vinnie’s Grovely shop and neighbouring businesses and expected similar results at the Shore Street store.
“Installing CCTV at our Grovely shop in Brisbane has resulted in a reduction of theft, vandalism and illegal dumping,” he said.
“Neighbouring business have also reported a decrease in crime to their shop fronts which may be down to the external cameras we installed.”
The three CCTV cameras were funded with $3300 federal government’s Stronger Communities Program grant and raised funds.
Vinnies Queensland store is at 42 Shore St West, Shop 2B, Shore Street Central.
