SEAFOOD lovers can find more about how authorities are tackling white spot disease at an information session on Thursday.
Biosecurity Queensland will talk about the problem at Redland Bay Amateur Fishing Club from 7.30pm on Thursday, February 15 at 245 The Esplanade, Redland Bay.
Club spokesman Andrew Jordan said the group were approached by the Department, which is understood to be boosting public awareness about the disease since it was found in Moreton Bay last year.
The virus is not harmful to humans but is fatal to crustaceans, posing risks to fisheries and aquatic life.
Infected animals may have a loose shell with numerous white spots measuring up to 2mm on the inside surface and a pink to red discolouration.
The disease first broke out in the Logan River in late 2016, with aquaculture farms there destocked and the river closed for fishing.
There have been no signs of the disease since last year.
Mr Jordan said Drew Argus would also deliver a talk on how to catch prawns with different nets.
Redland Bay Amateur Fishing Club is at 245 The Esplanade, Redland Bay.
