Wellington Point author and former teacher Greg Cudmore will speak about those “elephants” in the classroom at a Life in Australia presentation at the Donald Simpson Leisure Centre at 9.30am on February 26.
The subject is the title of his latest book, which is a critique of contemporary education and explores those things which affect the classrooms as effective learning environments.
“Governments in Australia spend $80 billion on education, an increase of 25 per cent in the last decade. Why have student outcomes not noticeably improved?” Mr Cudmore said.
“Why is Australia lagging when measured against our international rivals? Why has the massive injection of information technology into our schools made little difference? Why do many teachers leave the profession disillusioned? Exactly what are the goals of modern education and why are employers and universities critical of our school graduates? Is paying for a private school education worth it?”
Mr Cudmore has a 45-year career in education and now teaches with U3A..
