THE Bureau of Meteorology is monitoring storms rolling across south-east Queensland which could hit Redland City later this evening.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for local government areas including Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Scenic Rim as the storms move east towards the coast.
Power has been lost at North Stradbroke Island due to trees on powerlines, with about 500 customers disconnected.
More could face power outages later this evening as storms expected to bring large hail stones and damaging winds.
The Bureau has warned severe thunderstorms, moving in a north-easterly direction, were detected at the Scenic Rim about 4pm today.
“They are forecast to affect Boonah, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, Laravale and the area north of Nanango by 4.30 pm and Beaudesert, Canungra, Harrisville and Haden by 5.00 pm,” it read in the alert.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have warned people to move their cars and secure loose outdoors items.
