Donald Trump's US presidency has cost the family real estate firm a huge sum of money in lost business, his eldest son says, rejecting criticism that the family is cashing in on the office.
Donald Trump Jr, the acting head of the globe-spanning Trump Organisation, is on a week-long trip to India to sell luxury Trump properties in the country.
The company was not signing new deals with business partners outside the US as long as Trump remains in office, to avoid potential ethical conflicts, Trump Jr told the Times of India daily.
"We are refraining from doing new deals while my father is in office. We are turning down deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars around the world," he said.
The Trump Organisation had built a huge pipeline of deals through intense marketing and negotiations over a decade but these could not be inked now, Trump Jr added.
The businessman will visit Trump real estate projects in four Indian cities as well as wine and dine with wealthy Indians who have booked Trump flats. He will also deliver a foreign policy speech at an event where Premier Narendra Modi is key-note speaker.
US campaigners and the media have pointed out the potential conflict of interest during Trump Jr's India visit, raising concerns about his father's business activities mixing with US foreign policy.
