Often school leavers find themselves in a catch-22 situation. They need entry-level work experience to get a job, but they can’t get a job to earn that work experience.
This is where EDB Training can help.
EDB Training is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) based in the Redlands, at Capalaba.
They run weekly courses in Hospitality and Logistics specifically for school leavers to give them a foot in the door to find a job.
“It’s great to be able to find a job to support yourself while studying,” says EDB Training director, Brad Barber.
“Most kids are looking for night jobs that don’t interfere with studies, which makes these certificates so valuable.
“They can get a job in a pub or club or do shift work in warehouses at night looking after inventory.”
Those enrolled in hospitality will obtain their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and complete theory and practical work, including learning barista work.
The course imparts all the essentials of food hygiene and customer service. There are even coffee machines on site to facilitate barista training.

Those who choose to enrol in the Logistics course learn how to receive and dispatch goods, check inventory, as well as obtain a forklift licence, to enable them to work in warehousing.
They have a reputation for being able to cater to everyone’s needs. As part of their flexible approach, they provide on-site forklift training on the weekend or even at 5.30am before work.
They always follow up with attendees three months after the course. Happily, 93% of people have found work, this is in part to their new found skills making it easier to join the workforce.
Mr Barber said it was rewarding to work with local people to help them achieve excellent outcomes.
“We have seen people who were team members become team leaders, and even business owners, after finishing with us.”
