The Black Square Quartet will give its first concert appearance at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Cross Street, Cleveland from on April 14.
Ensemble members include Camille Barry, Bethan Lewis and Drs Danielle Bentley and Adam Cadell.
Ms Barry said the quartet’s name was inspired by the iconic painting by Kazimir Malevich and it’s correlation with minimalism
“The word minimalism was first used in English in the early 20th century to describe a 1915 composition by the Russian painter Kasimir Malevich, Black Square,” she said.
Repertoire will include Carl Vine’s Knips Suite and John Adams’ Book of Alleged Dances as well as some rag-time classics by Scott Joplin and a new work by the group’s second violinist, Dr Cadell.
A pre concert talk will be given with hors d’oeuvres and wine served on the lawn outside the church from 6.30pm followed by the one-hour concert from 7pm. There will be drinks served after the concert.
