FRIDAY is the most dangerous day for vehicle crashes in Redlands and the Brisbane area, according to research by Suncorp.
Queensland road users are more likely to be injured in a crash during the afternoon than at any other time of the day.
Suncorp spokeswoman Ashleigh Paterson said Friday was the worst day for crash injuries in the Brisbane area, including the Redlands, and on the Gold Coast but Tuesday was the worst day in regional Queensland.
“A lot of the time it can come down to drivers being distracted and not paying attention to what’s around them,” she said.
“A split-second loss of concentration and misjudgement is all it takes to cause an accident that can lead to devastating long-term injuries or worse.
“It affects more than just the injured people; it affects families and whole communities.”
The information was obtained during an analysis of about 4000 compulsory third party claims in Queensland from September 2017 to October 2017.
Ms Paterson said the analysis was to find out the days and times when people were getting injured in crashes across Queensland.
“Most injuries on our roads are happening at the start and end of the working week when commuters are rushing to get home,” she said.
“Friday afternoon is when people are often exhausted from the week and feeling impatient behind the wheel.
“Failing to give way on the road and tailgating are often a result of impatient driving and are contributing factors to many of these accidents.”
In Brisbane a quarter of injury-causing crashes occurred during the afternoon.
On the Gold Coast and in regional Queensland 30 per cent of road users reported an injury from a crash during this time.
More than half of the injury claims across the state were minor, which includes soft tissue injury and whiplash.
