Redland Performing Arts Centre will celebrate its 10th birthday with a free open day from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, March 25.
Visitors can take a back stage tour of the areas not open to the public. These tours will be hosted by the RPAC Creative Arts Manager Zane Trow, who will give a glimpse into the history of RPAC and what goes on in each of these areas during performances.
The tour takes visitors to the control room, the rehearsal spaces and offer a chance to walk across the RPAC stage. Back stage tours start at 10am, noon, 2pm and 4pm.
There will also be performances by in-residence groups at the open day. The Redland Sinfonia offers a smattering of some favourite orchestral pieces at 1pm during an open rehearsal, while the Redland City Choir will lift your spirits with a choral recital and sing along at 3pm. Members from each of these groups will also be available during the day to chat about their group and its plans for the year.
There will also be family-friendly activities between 10am and 2pm. The team from indelabilityarts will be holding clowning workshops at 10am and noon.
There will also be the chance to get creative with craft and music activities, including the opportunity to make your own wood artwork with Chez Beuvardia.
Children can also take home their own piece of art with a face painter on hand.
The Redland City Bulletin has been a media partner of the centre for the past 10 years, proud to be able to be part of the opportunity to give local community groups and organisations a chance to perform on a professional stage. In the past decade, more than 400,000 people have visited the centre with 51,000 visiting in 2017.
“It’s been a close association and we feel proud to have been a part of the growth of the performingarts centre since it opened. A centre of this calibre is a great boost to the area,” editor Brian Williams said.
The box office will be open during the day, taking bookings for the 40 shows on offer at the centre this year.
No bookings are required for the open day. Large groups wanting to participate in one of the behind-the-scenes tours should contact the RPAC box office on 3829 8131. More on rpac.com.au
