FOUR students from Cleveland District State High School were cheered on by their peers as they shaved their hair in support of the Leukaemia Foundation on Friday.
Among them was year 12 student Annabelle Hermans who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in August 2015.
Annabelle said she knew what she looked like without hair having gone through treatment in 2015 and 2016. She is also due to have a second operation later this year.
“I am in year 12 and am going to graduate so I thought I would do something different,” she said.
“It is amazing to see the school get together to support us.”
Year 9 student James Van Der Donk said was motivated to raise money for the foundation.
“Having the whole school there while having a haircut makes me nervous,” he said.
Year 8 student Claire Casey and year 12 student Emmanual Kiap also had their hair shaved.
The foundation started the World’s Greatest Shave 20 years ago. The campaign involves people shaving, cutting or colouring hair and banishing beards.
Wellington Point State School teacher Mark Grossert shaved his beard and raised about $2000 with the support of the Redland City Lions Club and the Leo Club of Wellington Point.
Mr Grossert had grown his beard for 10 years.
