VOLUNTEERS based on Tamborine Mountain are sending supplies to wildlife carers in Victoria and New South Wales in the wake of bush fires.
Founder of STAR Stitchers for Tamborine Animal Rescue Janet Green said the charity organisation provided support for wildlife carers, especially those in the Scenic Rim, because caring for sick or injured animals was hard work and expensive.
“We send them things like possum boxes, fabric pouches and frames to hang them from,” Ms Green said.
“We have nine people locally who sew the pouches and three men in the workshop making wooden frames and boxes.”
Ms Green said they had contacted carers struggling to rescue and care for wildlife in the bushfire areas.
“We will be sending them specialist pouches made of unbleached cotton, which is best for animals who have suffered burns,” she said.
“We will also provide mittens for koalas who survive the fires but burn their paws when they come down from their trees and walk on the scorched ground.”
