SEQWATER is offering tours of the Leslie Harrison Dam before the start of a $24 million upgrade.
Seqwater acting chief executive Dan Spiller said they will hold two tours on Saturday, April 21 after people missed out on tours in January.
It was the first time the public had been granted access to the site in such large numbers since the early 1990s.
The tours include a walk along the dam wall and a view of the spillway, with Seqwater staff available to talk about catchment management and how drinking water is produced from Capalaba Water Treatment Plant.
Mr Spiller said more than 100 people took part in the tours, with multiple sessions booked out.
“The three tours were held as part of a community consultation on proposed traffic routes for the Leslie Harrison Dam improvement program upgrade,” he said.
“For safety reasons, we had to limit the amount of people on the tour, which unfortunately meant some people who wanted to come along, missed out.
A tour for community groups in Capalaba will be held on Friday, April 20.
Mr Spiller said the Seqwater project team would be available to discuss details of the upgrade works and proposed mitigation for construction impacts.
“We were delighted to see so many people take a genuine interest in the dam and how we treat water during the last tours.”
The upgrade is intended to improve stability and performance of the dam during extreme weather events and natural disasters.
Bookings for the tours are limited and can be made by visiting seqwater.com.au/damimprovement and clicking the Leslie Harrison Dam link.
