DUNWICH State School students and teachers are becoming burnt out during class because of sweltering conditions during summer.
The problem is so bad, the school’s 170 children and P&C are appealing for donations to buy air conditioning.
Students are collecting money ahead of the school’s colour run on Wednesday, March 28 and a target of $1500 has been set up on the school’s fundraising page.
P&C spokeswoman Jayne McNamee said stifling classrooms caused kids and staff to become exhausted.
She said help was needed to help get the school air conditioned.
“We need our wider community to support us,” she said.
“Our small Island community is amazing and their support has always been overwhelming but this project needs wider support for our little school,” she said.
Ms McNamee said any increases in the school’s carbon footprint caused by air conditioning would be offset with other measures.
