IF SANDY Heilig could achieve one thing, it would be to stop young Quandamooka people from being plagued with doubt about life.
She said youth suicide was a real problem which had taken too many lives.
A charity fight next month, called the Quandamooka Cup, is aimed at helping vulnerable people by raising money for mental health service ALIVE.
The organisation provides crisis support and 12-month intervention support to at-risk youth.
“We had several charities put in proposals to our board explaining what they will do with the funds we raise,” Ms Heilig said.
“We all felt unanimously that ALIVE could provide and distribute the funds ... to the benefit of the most (amount of) people.”
She said 13 bouts had been organised for the fundraiser at Redlands PCYC on from 1pm on Sunday, June 17.
Headline fighters Jordan Rolander and Scott Allen will compete for the Quandamooka Memorial Title, with a match between Rhys Lightning and Mark Staiti also set to thrill spectators.
Other boxers include Brisbane’s Jimmy Shannon and Gold Coast trainer Adrian Ormrod.
The Quandamooka Cup was set up in 2016 as a mental health fundraiser following the suicide of North Stradbroke Island teen Jai Burns.
The event raised about $21,000 for charity Beyond Blue.
This year’s fight had been organised with help from Shut The Gate Events and Muay Thai Mouth Australia.
All proceeds from the sales of tickets, raffles, food and drinks will be given to ALIVE.
Ms Heilig said the cup belonged to the Quandamooka people, who she hoped would support the event.
Tickets, priced from $30 each, can be bought at Redlands PCYC on the day or in advance by phoning 0407 340 209.
