Our client produces commodities including bauxite, alumina, aluminium, copper, silver, lead, zinc, nickel, metallurgical coal and manganese from our operations in Australia, Southern Africa and South America. We also own a high-grade zinc, lead and silver development option in North America and have partnered with several junior explorers with a bias to base metals. Whether it's for use in infrastructure, energy generation, consumables or vehicles, they believe the extraction and processing of minerals and metals can be done in a responsible way.

Job Description

  • Drives cross-functional outcomes through collaborative engagement and influencing underpinned by deep sourcing expertise and end-to-end category and contract management;
  • Works collaboratively with our Planning, Projects and Functional Teams in order to develop and execute a robust Sourcing Plan while addressing the future needs of the business.
  • Responsible for (but not limited to) the Major Projects East category portfolio
  • Contributes to an inclusive culture that strives to drive value and innovation;
  • Identify and drive value adding initiatives across the business for the benefit of the organisation;
  • Supports the Category to source goods and / or services to ensure both project and optimal commercial outcomes are achieved, including:
    • Analysis of opportunities to optimise spend and reduce supply and project risk across categories
    • Develops effective relationships with internal business leaders to understand current and future business requirements, to forecast demand, and verify established contracts are effective
    • Ensures that the necessary Contract handover activities are completed to enable the Major Projects team to effectively administer the Contract.
    • Develops collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum delivery quality and sustained performance in line with business and project objectives. This also includes supporting resolution of supplier performance issues and escalations

Undertakes sourcing activity within the Category team:

      • Develops and executes category and sourcing strategies that optimise cost and are strategically aligned to the Major Projects portfolio
      • Assisting with and/or leading commercial contract negotiations with vendors for strategic contracts
      • Engaging with key stakeholders across the business to seek endorsements & approvals
      • Monitoring existing contracts and the portfolio of suppliers supporting the business ensuring optimal usage & performance against business and project expectations
      • Executes activities that contribute to the Local Procurement Plan including the identification of Indigenous Supply opportunities.
      • Develop, maintain and share market intelligence regarding vendors and innovation applicable to operations
      • Collects requirements and analyses key data inputs from multiple sources (internal and external) to build robust category and sourcing strategies
      • Provides first line risk assurance over Category Management activity and verifies compliance with Commercial Policies, Procedures, Frameworks and Processes

The Successful Applicant

  • Must be a team player
  • Experience in project procurement
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Resiliency is of high importance with this candidate
  • National Diploma or Advanced certificate / equivalent 3 years
  • Experience in developing commercial strategies and leading negotiations in a project environment.
  • Sound understanding of financial and business concepts to analyse and maximise commercial contracting outcomes
  • Min 5 years in a Supply/Projects environment, Mining & Metals will be preferred.
  • Min 12 months strategic sourcing or category management experience
  • Must have experience with working on Projects previously
