About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Marine Standards (Marine & Tourism), the Marine Training & Development Manager will work with internal and external stakeholders to embed learning and development initiatives and measures which drive organisational change initiatives. This role will be responsible for identifying training needs and organisational strategies to deliver competency based marine training and evaluating and assessing the outcomes. 

The position supports each of the SeaLink Marine and Tourism business units’ operational needs through assisting with the development, adoption and delivery of marine training standards. The position is also responsible for auditing and reporting the performance of marine crew competencies delivered within each business unit.

Core to the role is supporting the business units to develop their individual training, recruitment and career path strategies that improves the retention of marine crew and delivers operational outcomes that are safety focussed, effective and cost-efficient.

This is a National role which is ideally to be based in Brisbane however other major capital city locations will be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify training needs required to comply with and meet the National Law and its instruments, for the operation of Domestic Commercial Vessels and other relevant legislation.
  • Develop a national standard for managing crew inductions, ongoing training, certificates of competencies, emergency preparedness & drills and periodic competency assessments.
  • Develop a national training plan to support the business’ strategic goals and excellence in marine safety training.
  • Development and delivery of training programs (virtual and face to face).
  • Assist the business units in creating units of training competency specific to their operating environment including; crew inductions, periodic verification of skills and knowledge for existing staff, validation of emergency preparedness and all obligations imposed under Work Health Safety and Maritime legislation.
  • Maintain partnerships with external training providers on specific training and content development and source effective new partners, as required.
  • Create e-learning content.
  • Lead our Trainee and Apprenticeship strategy.
  • Coordinate Graduate rotations and Internship placements.
  • Be 'tech savvy' with experience in maximising utilisation and effectiveness of LMS systems.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation and management of a national crew certificate of competency and training database.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of a national plan to manage marine crew career path development that positively impacts staff retention.

About you

You will demonstrate a successful record in managing and implementing new and ongoing training initiatives across a rapidly growing and diverse workforce. Your ability to motivate others and encourage creative thinking whilst working with multiple stakeholders will see you delivering positive results.

You will be required to travel to SeaLink Marine & Tourism locations throughout Australia to deliver this role successfully.

AMSA approved Certificate of Competency is essential for this role.
