WELLINGTON Point State School is gearing up for a big 125th reunion on Saturday, May 12, and already seven generations of families are looking forward to attending the event.
Former 1957 student Jenny Clapham (nee Whitney) said the celebrations were significant considering so many generations of Redland families had attended the school.
"There are great-grandmothers through to their great-grandchildren who have attended the school. It's quite special really," she said.
"Some of the current students wouldn't understand how different it was for former students. Some of the boys who attended years ago would have worked hard on the farm before starting school, for example."
Former 1952 student Robin Belford said he had a lot of fond memories of the school including playing at lunchtime around the old school hall.
"Another thing I remember is being in one of the classrooms during a hail storm and all the windows breaking," he said.
Robin's nephew, also named Robin Belford, said he clearly remembered watching the moon landing in the old school hall.
"In black and white, of course. I also remember wearing no shoes to school and using the old slate pencils," he said.
The Wellington Point Great Reunion will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 1.15pm for a 2pm start.
