WHEN Sounds Original resumes its gigs at IndigiScapes, Capalaba on Sunday, February 24, it will be four years since its inception.
Aislinn Sharp started the sessions to give herself and other original musicians' airtime and a chance to perform their original works to an enthusiastic and responsive audience.
The sessions start at 2pm with free admission and are held on the fourth Sunday of the month (enquiries to Aislinn on 0499 145 118).
This year, Sounds Original will also hold an open mic night at The Artist Tree, Bloomfield St, Cleveland on the second Tuesday night of the month from 6.30pm- 9.30pm. Performers on Tuesday, February 12 included Steve Skinner, Ann Leung, Kara-Mia, and Jan Harvey.
"What Sounds Original has done is create a songwriting community. This is more than just a supportive place to play music," she said.
Highlights of the four years include a charity concert held to raise money for Elias James Mangos (who has cerebral palsy spastic quadriplegia) in July 2010 at Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club and a First Swap Originals Concert in November 2012, where musicians covered a song by another Sounds Original artist in their own original style (SO page: www.facebook .com/Sounds Original)
Aislinn will release her fifth single, Alone (Bye, Bye) on iTunes and YouTube on Thursday, February 21. This song received Highly Commended in the Electronic/Dance Section at the Queensland Music Awards 2012, and Top 25 in the Pop/Dance Section at Australian Songwriting Contest 2012.
This Thursday, Aislinn will be the guest of 612ABC Brisbane Breakfast announcer, Spencer Howson who will play Alone (Bye, Bye).
"It's pretty exciting," she said.
