In 1936 a new two-storey hotel was built on the site of the old Capalaba Hotel.
The current Capalaba Tavern on Old Cleveland Road just opposite where Redland Bay Road and Mount Cotton Road intersect with it. The original Capalaba Hotel was popular with Sunday drivers, and many residents, including around Capalaba, opened roadside stalls selling home-grown fruit, vegetables and sometimes honey. In 1973 the Capalaba Tavern opened. It is currently being renovated.

What Redlanders couldn’t grow they bought, and they shopped at places like Kratzmann’s Store in Wellington Pt (it only recently burnt down)
In 1961 this was a typical shop in the Redlands – Herman Holzapfel sold farming and produce supplies from the Capalaba produce store.
The milkman delivered fresh milk each day – this dairy operated from Fernbourne House in Wellington Point from the late 1920s until the 1960s.
