Throwback Thursday - a look back at the Redlands of old -- this week January 1956.
Back in 1956, the news in early was a slightly more diverse than these days.
The Redland News, in its first paper back for the year reported that Queensland's first Drive-In theatre at Capalaba had opened the week before Christmas – weeks earlier than expected. There was no word in the report about the first movie shown.
The other front page story was a sad tale about a double-headed calf that was born at Capalaba on the farm of Mr Frederichs (note spelling). Both the calf and mother died.
And the other big news was the announcement that new trunk telephone lines between Cleveland and Thornlands and Cleveland and Victoria Point would come into service in the next week.
