A sparkling second half and an 11 goal haul from Cleve Hughes has seen the Redland Bombers run over the top of a determined but undermanned Gold Coast Suns Reserves outfit to win by 99 points at Casheezi Park.
Fifteen goals to two after half time blew the margin out, but the Bombers didn't have it all their own way in soft conditions as the visitors controlled stoppages and possession early in the game.
The stronger bodies of the Suns' Jack Hutchins, Karmichael Hunt, and Jeremy Taylor were dominant early with the Suns also leading the disposal count.
Ruckman Paul Hunter was having a great battle with Will Wolbers as both sides vied for midfield supremacy
After an even first quarter Cleve Hughes presented as a forward marking option and during the second quarter he received good service through the middle of the ground.
The Bombers extended a one point quarter time lead to 15 at the long break as they looked to quell the Suns' resistance.
A six goal to one third quarter was just the tonic to blow the game open as Hughes kicked another three for the term aided by clever small forward Matt Thomson who booted the other three.
Phil Carse, Tom Salter, Andrew Scott, and Brad Rees really came into their own during the third term along with some great defensive work from Damian Steven who was making a solid contribution.
The lead had been extended to 46 points at the final break before the floodgates well and truly opened with the Bombers amassing an amazing 9.7 in the last term.
Hughes again presented well and was rewarded with five goals to finish a great days work with 11 majors.
Carse ended the day with 38 disposals and three goals, Rees, A. Scott, and Steven were good four quarter players along with Phil Lovett and Adrian Williams who enjoyed the freedom of getting out of the back half.
