Ormiston Private Health Club's senior team of Sandra Middleton and Kev Rogers finished this year's lifting season by representing Australia at the 2014 Global Powerlifting Alliance World Championships.
Both Sandra and Kev went into the championships as current national champions/record holders and defending world record holders.
Sandra dropped to the 48kg class, from the 52kg division, for the world championships, and did an amazing 2.5 times body weight deadlift and equalled her world record set in the 52kg class at this year's national championships.
Sandra finished in first place and was named world champion in the 48kg class, fly weight, winning three titles: push/pull (bench press and deadlift), bench press specialist, and deadlift specialist. She set world records in push/pull, open/masters; bench press, masters and deadlift, masters.
After losing 22kg of fat over the past few years, coach and lifter Kev Rogers competed in the 60kg class, light weight.
He won first place and was named world champion, picking up two titles: push/pull (bench press and deadlift) and bench press specialist. He set world records in push/pull, open/masters; bench press, masters and deadlift, masters.
"There are two qualities that make a great powerlifter," Kev said.
"The first is you need to be strong in your chosen disciplines and the second is you need to be lean.
