A GOAL after the final siren has put paid to the Redland Bombers title aspirations as they went down 9.12.66 to 10.9.69 against Southport in a thrilling NEAFL first semi final played on the Gold Coast last Sunday
It was a see-sawing battle with less than two goals difference for the majority of the contest, but Southport played the key moments better.
Nine points was the margin at half time in a low scoring game with the ball spending a lot of time between the defensive arcs.
The last quarter provided a bit of everything with the Bombers hitting the front for the first time in the game two minutes in and gaining momentum from some team lifting acts and fabulous long range goals
Southport kept coming at the Bombers, however, and a 10 point lead was whittled down to less than a kick. With eight seconds to go, Southport midfielder Hayden Kiel marked inside fifty and kicked truly after the siren. for his side to progress to the preliminary final.
