A man found guilty of robbing Alexandra Hills’ Red Shop last year has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment.
A two-day Brisbane District Court trial last week determined Adam Gimm, 25, was guilty of three charges related to the armed robbery of the convenience store, on the corner of Finucane and Allenby roads.
The court heard Gimm walked into the shop to buy cigarettes shortly after it opened on the morning of July 13, 2014, before walking back outside to get money from his car.
He returned with a tomahawk and threatened the owner, who brandished a small stick to defend himself.
Gimm then took the entire cash register off the counter and ran out the door, but dropped it when a customer confronted him outside.
Leaving empty-handed, Gimm fled the scene with the till still on the ground.
The owners of the Red Shop gave evidence during the trial, closing the store for the day so they could attend.
Judge Leanne Clare sentenced Gimm to four years’ imprisonment on Thursday, with 18-month and 12-month sentences for other charges to be served concurrently.
The Red Shop, which has a loyal customer base, has fallen victim to three other, unrelated, robberies since the current owners bought the business in October, 2011.
