HISTORY was created on Saturday when 620 runners, joggers and walkers completed the inaugural Sirromet park run at Mount Cotton.
Event director Olivia Coop, from Cleveland, said it was the first park run at an Australian winery and the world’s second after the successful South African vineyard run.
“It was an exciting morning. We also set a park run Australia record for the biggest launch event,” Mrs Coop said.
Saturday’s 600-plus starters far exceeded organiser’s expectations with initial estimates of about 450 participants.
However, numbers soon soared when 620 people crossed the finish line after completing the picturesque 5km course which wound its way around the north-eastern section of Mount Cotton’s Sirromet Winery.
First across the line was Wakerley’s Adam Fogg with young Chandler athlete Jamie Hiscock the fastest female.
