AN induction function for the new Redland City Council will now be held on North Stradbroke Island, rather than Brisbane.
A resident had complained about the two-day event being proposed for Brisbane, saying it was the height of hypocrisy for an administration that had long argued for more development and business in Redlands to hold such a function elsewhere.
The event will be held on Monday and Tuesday, with the councillors staying on the tourism and mining island one night.
A facilitator will run the sessions and long-serving former Sunshine Coast and Noosa mayor Bob Abbott will provide expert advice.
The facilitator also will hold one-on-one interviews with councillors-elect this week, as part of the preparation.
Mayor-elect Karen Williams said the primary aim of the event was to build a team to serve the city for the next four years.
"I am determined to deliver on the community's expectations of a united, collaborative and effective council for this term,'' she said.
"I have sought and received a commitment from a majority of councillors and prospective councillors that we will work together in a unified way to deliver the best outcomes for this city.
"An important first step to achieve this is to build the team prior to any decisions being made on the chamber floor.''
Cr Williams said it was critical that the workshop delivered on community expectations.
She said the workshop's success would require all councillors providing commitment and attendance.
