A TEAM from the Wynnum Redlands Canoe Club has brought home 20 medals and a string of personal best times from the National Sprint Championships in Perth.
Kayakers won five gold medals, nine silver medals and six bronze medals.
The eight member team from the Thorneside-based club competed in the single (K1), double (K2) and four person (K4) events in their age groups.
The team members were David Bicknell, Jack Bicknell, Jonathan Gray, Lauren Peters, Samantha Parker, Gabrielle Parker, Sophie Butler and Ryley Ivanisevic.
Sprint kayak racing is an Olympic sport and is raced over 1000 metres, 500 metres and 200 metres.
Butler, Gray and Gabby Parker were selected for the sprint team to compete at the Junior Olympic Hopes Regatta in Hungary in September.
The club also had a member selected for the 2016 Emerging National Marathon Team tour to South Africa in May and June.
Daniel Mole placed fifth against some international standard competitors in the under 18 men’s K1 over 22.5 kilometres.
Wynnum Redlands Canoe Club is a Silver Pathways Club under Australian Canoeing’s national elite development program.
The race team’s season started in October and also included the Australian Canoeing’s Grand Prix 1 regatta in Adelaide in December.
