BMX champion Des'ree Barnes is on her way to Colombia to take part in the BMX World Championships.
Already a four-time world champion, she won the Australian title at Bathurst in March and has been awarded the Buchanan Next Gen Jayco Scholarship.
This is a $3000 award to help with costs in travelling to Colombia where she will defend her title in the 14-year-old division.
Caroline Buchanan is the women's time trial world champion and Des'ree has ridden with her in training sessions at Chandler.
Barnes, who started racing when she was four, is a Victoria Point State High School pupil who became a national champion for the 6th consecutive year this year.
Dad Luke Barnes said the scholarship was welcomed.
"It'll help pick up fares and some of the accommodation,'' he said.
Barnes said Des'ree was a fierce competitor, with her sport having taken the family around the world.
So far they have visited South Africa, New Zealand, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Copenhagen in Denmark and Belgium.
Des'ree said she was confident that she would be able to defend her world title
