CAPALABA MP Don Brown discovered recently that one of his ancestors was convict Henry Hall.
That was one of the surprising facts about his family tree that Mr Brown learned after agreeing having the Redland Genealogical Society explore his family’s roots.
Three members of the club, Annette Hall, Audrey Warner and Helen Veivers took on the task of finding the information.
Mr Brown’s parents, Don and Helen Brown were also involved in the project.
It was discovered the Mr Brown has roots in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, New Zealand and Germay.
The Redland Genealogical Society runs courses for people interested in tracing their family history.
The next course, run with U3A, begins on Wednesday, July 13 from 9am to 11am at the Redland RSL community centre on the corner of Middle and Passage streets in Cleveland.
The introductory session will be followed by nine weekly classes of about two hours each.
The cost is $5 per week for the lesson notes and $1 for tea.
